Plans of survey

The Land Titles Office registers plans of survey prepared by licensed Canada Lands Surveyors, which establish the boundaries and legal descriptions of all parcels of land within the Land Titles system.

A certificate of title can only be issued for a parcel that has been surveyed and for which a plan of survey has been registered.

A condominium plan, together with the declaration and bylaws, can be registered to create a condominium corporation. Certificates of title are then issued for each of the units in the condominium.

Plans of survey can also be prepared and registered for the subdivision or consolidation of existing parcels of land, and descriptive plans can be registered to define smaller parcels for the purposes of registering encumbrances such as caveats.

Registered plans of survey can be viewed at the Land Titles Office, and copies can be provided for a fee.
