The Residential Tenancies Act was amended in the Northwest Territories' cannabis legislation. Provisions came into effect on June 1, 2018 setting new rules relating the smoking and cultivation of cannabis in rental units.

Condominium corporations establish bylaws and rules for unit owners and are in effect for the whole of the property including individually owned units and jointly owned common elements. The Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Implementation Act included an amendment adding section 7.1 to the Condominium Act to understand laws related to smoking and growing cannabis in condominium unit and common areas.
