Apply for the Bobbi Hamilton Restorative Justice Memorial Award

Overview

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has created the annual Restorative Justice award in memory of Bobbi Hamilton who passed away in 2024. Bobbi was the longest serving Community Justice Coordinator, who dedicated over 15 years of service to support a justice system that seeks to repair harm by providing opportunities for those harmed and those who take responsibility for the harm to communicate about and address their needs.

The GNWT would like to recognize individuals who, like Bobbi Hamilton, go above and beyond, who demonstrate commitment and dedication to serving their community by supporting those who have caused and experienced harm caused by crime and meeting the needs of those involved.

Eligibility

The GNWT is committed to ensuring that those who work in the areas of restorative justice are recognized and valued for their commitment to community safety, healing and their contributions to their communities are recognized.

Examples of consideration that may lead to the award include:

  • Years of service;
  • Consistently promotes peaceful conflict resolution, healing between offenders, victims, families and communities;
  • Demonstrates leadership in the field of community justice and collaboration with community partners and organizations;
  • Dedication to the betterment and health of their community through local outreach and community activities;
  • Works toward the enhancement of community safety and healing effects of crime through their employment or volunteer efforts; or,
  • A Community Justice program partner that exemplifies the above noted qualities.

Deadline

Deadline for submissions is October 30th of every year.

How to apply

You must complete the Bobbi Hamilton Memorial Award Form. Please return nomination forms to communityjustice@gov.nt.ca.

Evaluation

Submission forms must outline how the nominee meets the eligibility criteria, with contact name, address and contact information and letters of support from community partners. The selection committee will review and evaluate nominations and make a recommendation to the Deputy Minister.
