Mental Disorder Review Board

The Mental Disorder Review Board (the Board) is appointed by the Commissioner in Executive Council. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Commissioner shall appoint not fewer than five members to the Board, including the following:

  1. Chairperson, who is either a judge, a retired judge, or a person who is qualified to be a judge;
  2. At least one member who is entitled to practice psychiatry;
  3. At least one member with training and expertise in mental health and who is entitled to practice medicine or psychology in the Territories.

The Board reports to the Minister of Justice, through the office of the Deputy Minister.
