Legislation
Legislation Division drafts all territorial legislation, with the exception of some private Member's Bills. The Bills dealt with by the Legislative Assembly have the highest profile, but the Division also prepares all regulations made under the Acts and the great majority of the Government's statutory appointments.
The Legal Translation Section within the Division prepares French versions of all Bills and regulations, and also prepares French versions of judgments when requested to do so by the courts.
Legislation Division prepares the Northwest Territories Gazette, which includes the full text of all regulations and orders, notices of statutory appointments and revocations, and various governmental and non-governmental notices, all published in both English and French. The Division also prepares for publication the annual volumes of Statutes enacted by the Legislative Assembly, and prepares consolidations of statutes and regulations.
The Northwest Territories Gazette is available online, and the Annual Statutes volumes can be purchased though the Territorial Printer.
The statutes and regulations can also be accessed on-line; however, persons using these consolidations should be cautious as the material is updated monthly and may not be current. Errors and omissions may also occur.
