Victim Services
Victim Assistance Fund
The Victims of Crime Act establishes a Victims Assistance Fund (VAF). The fund is administered by the Victims Assistance Committee (VAC) who review funding proposals for the VAF. This special purpose fund is used for community based projects and activities that directly support or benefit victims of crime through training, direct services, public awareness and research. It does not directly compensate individual victims. The fund is maintained through victim fine surcharges imposed by judges under the authority of the Criminal Code and the Victims of Crime Act.
For more information on the Victims Assistance Fund or Committee, please contact the Manager, NWT Victim Services.
